In Part 1 of this message, we explored what it means to dwell in God’s presence continually — living a life of communion, prayer, and fellowship with Him.
In this part, we’ll go deeper into how we can practically dwell in His presence through thanksgiving, praise, and worship — the three powerful keys that draw us closer to the heart of God and sustain intimacy with Him.
Ministering to the Lord in Praise and Worship
Ministering to the Lord in praise and worship is not just singing songs; it’s expressing to God what He truly means to us. It’s giving Him heartfelt affection and adoration that ministers directly to His heart — and that is what brings Him on the scene.
God desires our affection, not just our words.
📖 “These people draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” — Matthew 15:8
True worship goes beyond performance — it is the language of the heart. Nothing expresses our love for God more than praise and worship that flows from genuine gratitude. It prepares our hearts to pray, positions our spirits rightly before Him, and keeps us anchored in His presence.
The Divine Protocol of God’s Presence
One reason many believers rarely sense God’s power or presence in their gatherings is that they often approach Him wrongly. There is a divine protocol for entering the presence of a King — even earthly kings have strict rules for approaching them.
You may dwell in a king’s palace and enjoy its benefits, yet not have daily access to his throne. Likewise, though we live in God’s presence continually, when it’s time to commune with Him deeply, we must follow Heaven’s order.
David, a man after God’s own heart, discovered this divine protocol. In Psalm 100:4, he revealed the heavenly pattern for approaching the Almighty:
📖 “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”
This pattern shows us the progression of spiritual approach — from His gates (thanksgiving) to His courts (praise) and finally to His throne (worship).
The Spiritual Order of Worship to God
1. Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving
The gates represent the entrance into God’s presence. The first step is thanksgiving — thanking Him for His mercy, goodness, kindness, salvation, daily victories, and answered prayers.
Thanksgiving shifts our focus from ourselves to God. It opens the gates of His presence and prepares our hearts to approach Him rightly.
📖 “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1
2. Proceed to His Courts with Praise
Just like in a royal palace, you must pass through the gate before accessing the court. After thanksgiving, we proceed with praise — singing, rejoicing, and celebrating God’s greatness.
Praise moves us from gratitude to celebration. It acknowledges God’s majesty and reminds our soul that He is worthy of glory, regardless of circumstances.
📖 “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” — Psalm 150:6
3. Enter His Inner Court — Worship at His Throne
The final realm is worship — the deepest place of intimacy with God.
Worship happens when we move from thanksgiving (His gates) to praise (His courts), and then press into His throne room, where we minister to Him in Spirit and in truth.
📖 “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” — John 4:24
Here, we don’t ask for things — we behold Him. This is the realm where His voice becomes clear, where the rhythm of His heart aligns with ours, and where transformation takes place.
In Acts 13:2, the Bible says:
“As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said…”
When we minister to the Lord with thanksgiving, praise, and worship, His presence becomes tangible, and His voice becomes audible. This is the atmosphere where miracles happen — the dead rise, the sick are healed, yokes are broken, and revival begins.
📖 “But You are holy, O You who inhabit the praises of Israel.” — Psalm 22:3
Many Stop at the Gate — Few Reach the Throne
Sadly, many believers never move past the first two stages. Some stop at the gate with thanksgiving, others remain in the court with praise — but few press into the throne room of worship.
Stopping halfway is like visiting a king’s palace but never meeting him face-to-face. You may deliver your request, but the one who sees the king personally enjoys deeper favor and connection.
When we go beyond requests and seek His face in worship, God meets our needs even before we ask.
📖 “Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.” — Isaiah 65:24
The truth is, before you approached His gate, God already knew your needs. But worship draws His attention to your heart, not just your petition.
The Balance of Prayer and Worship
If your prayer life is 70% or more of asking and only 30% or less of worship, your communion with God is not balanced. The reverse should be true — 70% or more of worship, thanksgiving, and praise, and 30% or less of requests.
Prayer’s first purpose is not petition, but communion.
When you focus more on worship, your spirit becomes aligned with Heaven’s atmosphere, and your requests flow from divine understanding, not human need.
📖 “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name…” — Matthew 6:9-13
Notice that even the Lord’s Prayer begins with worship before petitions.
Practical Keys for Dwelling in His Presence
-
Begin every prayer with thanksgiving before presenting requests.
-
Make worship your lifestyle, not just a church activity.
-
Maintain a grateful heart, even in trials — gratitude keeps the gates open.
-
Praise God daily for who He is, not just what He has done.
-
Cultivate quiet moments of personal worship — where words cease and your heart speaks.
Dwelling continuously in God’s presence is not a one-time experience; it’s a lifestyle of thanksgiving, praise, and worship. As you follow this spiritual order, you won’t just visit God’s presence — you’ll live there.
May your prayer life be transformed from mere requests to rich communion, and may you experience the fullness of His glory as you minister to His heart daily.
