In today’s world, there is a growing belief that man does not need God to succeed. This is a lie from the pit of hell, designed to make people undermine the place of God in their lives. The truth is this: In every human life, there is a role for man to play and a role for God to play. When both are in place, life is balanced. But this false teaching encourages people to ignore God’s role and focus only on their own efforts.
Some justify this belief by saying, “Look at developed nations — they don’t follow God, yet they are the best in the world.” This may be true in terms of human achievement, but even in their so-called success, they still need God. Why? Because there are areas in life that human effort can never handle — only God can. There are challenges human ability cannot solve — they require the positive supernatural intervention of God. There are secrets, insights, and wisdom that human skill cannot produce unless God reveals them. Even the negative supernatural (Satan) cannot provide them, because they belong only to God.
The Difference Between God’s Destiny, Human Destiny, and Satan’s Destiny
Godly Destiny – This is your primary destiny — God’s eternal purpose for your life.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Every person is created to fulfil divine assignments that carry eternal value.
Human Destiny – This is your secondary destiny — your earthly calling or profession.
Proverbs 19:21 (NIV) – “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Earthly success is not complete without aligning to God’s eternal purpose.
Satan’s Destiny – This is the devil’s counterfeit plan for your life, aimed at eternal destruction.
John 10:10 (NIV) – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Satan will fight your Godly destiny more than your human destiny, because only the Godly destiny affects your eternity.
Key Truth
What the world celebrates as “success” is often just human destiny fulfilled. But no matter how much you achieve in life, you are incomplete without fulfilling your God-given destiny. Your human destiny may bring you temporary honor on earth, but your Godly destiny determines your eternal standing with Him.
Lets take an in-depth study of each of these destinies.
Godly Destiny
This is the mission God gave every individual to fulfil in their life time on earth on the day their mother conceived them. Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV) – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” This shows that God’s mission for a person starts from conception.
It's the goal/target that God had set for them to meet from the day they are born to when they die and return to dust. Psalm 139:16 (NIV) – “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Our life’s path is known and planned by God before we even live a single day.
This is the most ignored destiny, in fact many people are ignorant this kind of destiny exist. This destiny for every man is tied to their eternity journey after life. So anyone who is ignorant of this, or aware but says it's not necessary is certainly not conscious of life after earth (eternity) which translates to a life without Christ or a life with Christ that is lived carelessly.
Not fulling this destiny has the potential to highly reduce the chances of a man spending eternity with God.
Matthew 7:21–23 (NIV) – “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Eternal life is tied to doing God’s will, which is fulfilling your God destiny — not just professing God.
John 9:4 (NIV) – “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.” There is urgency and a limited time to fulfil God’s mission before life ends. Everyone must act now, delay is dangerous. Thinking that you will first fulfil your human destiny while you re young and fulfil God's own when you re old is a lie. The two must go simultaneously.
1 Corinthians 3:13–15 (NIV) – “…If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” Some will make it to eternity with God but without reward because they failed to fulfil their God destiny; but this is dangerous and chances might be slim.
Human Destiny
This is the role or assignment God wants you to fulfil in the human realm during your lifetime — your earthly calling or vocation. Some He made doctors, lawyers, engineers, speakers, teachers, athletes, artists, and so on. Statements like “He is a talented footballer” often point to someone walking in the earthly aspect of their God-given ability.
However, this is the destiny most people recognize and pursue, often believing that success here equals total destiny fulfilment. That is not true — it is only one part of your overall purpose, and in fact, the secondary one. Your primary destiny is your Godly (eternal) calling, which carries eternal consequences.
Exodus 31:2–4 (NIV) – “See, I have chosen Bezalel… and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills — to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze.” Shows God giving people earthly skills and vocations.
1 Samuel 16:18 (NIV) – “…I have seen a son of Jesse who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the LORD is with him.” Highlights God-given earthly talents and abilities.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV) – “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”
Encourages diligence in earthly work, but note it’s still part of life under the sun, not eternity.
Satan's Destiny
Just as God destined everyman to be something in life humanly for themselves and spiritually for Him (human and Godly destiny), the devil also has his own destiny for everyman born into the world. Satan's destiny is usually the counterfeit especially of the Godly destiny. John 10:10 (NIV) – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
The Power Struggle Over Human Destiny
Satan’s agenda is always the opposite of God’s. While God’s destiny brings life, Satan’s destiny brings destruction. This is the primary difference between the two.
Human destiny is caught in between these two forces. Both can greatly influence it — for better or for worse. It’s like the popular saying: “When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.”
Now, I am not for one moment equating Satan’s ability with God’s. The power Satan operates with was originally given to him before his fall from heaven. God did not completely strip him of it — though He easily could — but allowed him to retain some measure of power for a time. So, can a man be greater than the source of his power? The answer is no. If you can’t be greater than the finger that feeds you, how much less can you surpass the One who created you? This is Satan’s reality — his power is still subject to God.
The point is this: Every human must reckon with the reality of these two forces that influence humanity — the life-giving destiny from God and the destructive destiny from Satan. Which one prevails in your life depends on the choices you make. Why Satan's destiny for man is a counterfeit especially of the Godly destiny is because;
- First, Satan is always opposite of God and anything good.
- Secondly; it is the destiny that is tied to a man's eternity (life after death) which is what God and Satan is mostly interested in every man. Satan can ignore a man's earthly (human) destiny because it ends here at death (temporary). But will never joke with the Godly destiny (eternity) because he wants people who will be condemned with him for eternity. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) – “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” His destiny for man is eternal separation from God which translates to eternal destruction. So when God destines every man for salvation, Satan destines everyman for destruction. Whose destiny will prevail in a man's life is now the choice of everyman because God gave man the greatest weapon "Choice" Scripture which says choose this day whom you will serve.
How Does Satan Targets This Godly Destiny?
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV) – “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel…” He works to block salvation, because eternal life is the most important part of God’s plan for man. This is the primary way he achieves this and this is why carnal men (unbelievers) can't understand the things of God's kingdom.
They will always criticise it, condemn it, talk down on it etc.. because Satan, has blinded folded their mind. This is same reason why they believe they don't need God in their lives, that their human success is enough, after all they don't know God yet they are successful. It's the same reason people talk down on miracles which is the supernatural working of God and believe everything man wants is possible by his own efforts. When you see any preacher of the gospel or man speak like this, his mind has been blinded folded by the devil.
Matthew 13:19 (NIV) – “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart.”
Satan works to derail God’s calling before it can take root.
The counterfeit nature of Satan’s destiny
His path mimics truth but ends in destruction. This is the primary nature of Satan's destiny. Many people you see in the world today called successful were not destined by God to be what they are, the devil hijacked their God destiny by mimicking God's destiny for them. He did this by opening a way that looked liked the right/God's way for them to follow and planted his traps that later caught them for eternal destruction.
Isaiah 5:20 (NIV) – “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness…”
Proverbs 14:12 (NIV) – “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”
Satan always offers the opposite of God’s way, making it look attractive but deadly.
To crown this up, let me make it clearer by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
There are people whom God has destined to be great singers as part of their God-given destiny. (Note: sometimes your God-given destiny can be the same as your human destiny.) Many of them start out singing gospel music. However, along the journey of pursuing this calling, they may face challenges—such as lack of funds to produce songs, difficulty gaining recognition, or not getting invitations for events. These are common struggles for many upcoming artists, whether gospel or secular.
Then, a “helper” suddenly appears, offering to solve these problems. To the artist, it feels like an answered prayer. They eagerly accept the opportunity, not realizing that along the way, this so-called helper will subtly influence them—either drawing them into occult practices to get fame or steering them toward producing fully secular music or a combination of both. As a result, they may achieve worldwide fame.
From the world’s perspective, they are seen as successful and as people fulfilling their destiny. But before God, they are not. In reality, they have embraced a counterfeit version of their God-given destiny—one crafted by the devil. This counterfeit may look glamorous, but it ultimately leads to eternal destruction. This is the exact story behind the scene of many so called successes the world celebrates and see as a reason why man doesn't need God. Many people are doing well and are known all over the world in a field that is not what God destined for them, even them might not know. There is difference between being successful and being successful in what God wants you to do. One brings human satisfaction the other brings eternal satisfaction. If not, why do very so called successful men still commit suicide because they feel empty inside the world seems meaningless to them.
Notable Examples of Successful People who Committed Suicide For Being Empty
1. Robin Williams
An acclaimed actor and comedian, beloved for his infectious energy, who tragically took his own life in 2014. Despite his fame and talent, he battled depression and deep internal turmoil. (Though I can't cite directly now, this case is widely documented.)
2. Anthony Bourdain
Renowned chef, author, and TV host known for exploring the world’s cultures through food. His unexpected passing in 2018 shook many, revealing that outer success doesn’t insulate against inner struggle.
3. Kate Spade
A celebrated fashion designer whose uncompromising creativity brought her global acclaim. She died by suicide in 2018, reminding the world that external achievements can mask profound unhappiness.
The God-given destiny can only be discovered by having an intimate, personal relationship with God. This is why every individual, nation, and institution must build and maintain a relationship with Him.
The Weapon Of Choice
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NIV) – “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses… I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” God gives man the power to choose which destiny to follow.
Joshua 24:15 (NIV) – “…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Eternity is determined by our choice. No matter how successful a person, nation, or organization appears to be, if they do not have God, they are incomplete and headed for eternal destruction. Learn from the story of the rich fool in the Bible:
Luke 12:16–21 (KJV):
And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
This parable shows that earthly achievements without God are vanity. True success is fulfilling your God-given destiny, not just achieving human goals.
Summary of This Message
God’s destiny for every person begins at conception — He knows and sets them apart before birth, with a specific purpose to fulfil in their lifetime (Jeremiah 1:5).
All days are ordained by God from the start, with a destiny meant to be completed before returning to dust (Psalm 139:16).
Human destiny refers to your earthly role or profession — such as being a doctor, lawyer, engineer, teacher, or athlete — which God may assign for your lifetime in the human realm.
Many focus only on this earthly success, mistaking it for total destiny fulfilment, but it is actually the secondary part of life’s purpose compared to your Godly (eternal) destiny.
Satan has a destructive plan for every person, and that's his destiny for every man (John 10:10).
Satan's main target is our eternal destiny, not just our earthly achievements. His destiny for man is always the opposite of God's destiny for man.
He offers a counterfeit path that looks appealing but leads to eternal ruin.
God gave humans the power of choice to decide whose destiny to follow.
